DESCRIPTION

Position Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic dental team that is expanding oral health services. The dental program is an integral component of a fully integrated health home that includes primary care, mental health, and public health services. The CHC is a growing Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with clinic sites in Corvallis, Monroe, Alsea, Lebanon, and Sweet Home Oregon.

Regular clinic hours are 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday – Friday.

This position will provide leadership at an exciting phase of growth for the dental program. In 2018, a three operatory suite is planned as part of a renovation of the Health Services building in Corvallis. This will support expanding services to include adult dental treatment. Existing dental services include; dental treatment for children two days a week at the Boys and Girls Club dental clinic, and an extension outreach, prevention and education program that includes screening, fluoride varnish and sealants at all Benton County and East Linn County schools, WIC, and Head Starts, and adult prevention services provided at primary care clinics, community settings, and assisted living facilities.

Essential Functions

The Dental Director is responsible for dental policy, oversight, supervision and coordination of dental services. The Dental Director provides high quality direct patient care according to training, experience, and licensure. Dental services are provided in a variety of settings, including dental clinic, medical clinic, schools, and community settings. Participates as a member of the administrative and dental team. Functions as an educational resource to patients, the clinic, students, and community.

MFA: Dental Services

Essential Duties:

  • Diagnose dental conditions throughout dentition using dental equipment and x-rays. Plans oral health treatment in consultation with patients.
  • Provide care including diagnosis, preventive dentistry, operative dentistry, pedodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics (fixed and removable), endodontic/pulpotomies, and oral surgery within the scope of a general dentistry practice.
  • Repair decayed and broken teeth by placement of various filling materials, when necessary extract teeth. Treat diseases of the gum.
  • Provide preventive services through use of fluorides and sealants; instruct patient and family members on dental care.
  • Fabricate space maintainers designed for patients.
  • Administer local anesthetics when necessary for carrying out treatment.
  • Accurately code and document in the health record according to protocol; complete documentation within the established time frame; review reports to proactively manage care.
  • Participate in collaborative treatment with medical, mental health, public health, and dental professionals within Health Services and other dental providers in the community to coordinate patient care.

MFA: Dental Oversight and Policy

Essential Duties:

  • Oversee development and implementation of best clinical practices in the provision of integrated services within a Patient-Centered Primary Care Home (PCPCH) delivery model.
  • Provide dental expertise and input in all aspects of clinical care. Monitor outcomes for the Health Center patient population and provide leadership in developing strategies and setting clear goals and expectations to improve health outcomes. Interpret dental guidelines and applicable state and federal policies to assure compliance with all rules and regulations that govern practice. Oversee evaluation, resolution and monitoring of all near miss or untoward clinic events, medication errors, patient concerns regarding care given, and potential malpractice claims.
  • Oversee collaborative working agreements with Dental Hygienists.
  • Manage and oversee dental services including the supervision of assigned professional and specialized staff. Includes prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring staff are trained, ensuring that employees follow policy and procedures, maintaining a healthy and safe work environment and making hiring, termination and disciplinary decisions.
  • Promote, facilitate and advance strong relationships and collaboration within the local health care system.
  • Participate in community activities that promote the model of care and/or the Health Center.
  • Promote and model a team based approach through collaborative management and decision-making, working closely with administration and clinical managers and supervisors.
  • Participate in strategic planning, implementation of clinical initiatives, budget development, and outcome evaluation.
  • Act as a change agent improving dental team performance and integration.
  • Provide dental leadership to the Quality Improvement process. Participate in design, development and implementation of Quality Improvement processes and initiatives and leading Quality Improvement Oversight Committee. Provide dental leadership to the credentialing and privileging process.
  • Lead a peer review process to improve clinical services and patient outcomes.
  • Pursue ongoing continuing medical education to stay current with best practice standards and license requirements.
  • Provide supervision, oversight, and evaluation of dentist and dental hygiene students on rotation through the clinic.

Other Duties as Assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Doctor of Dental Medicine or DDS Licensure.
  • Valid Oregon Dental License (or ability to become licensed in Oregon at time of hire)
  • At least 5 years of Dental work experience (at least 2 years of leadership experience strongly preferred). Successful applicant is required to pass a background investigation with hiring contingent on passing the investigation.
  • Must have a strong interest in working with diverse populations and ages.
