University of California, Davis Health invites nominations and applications for the position of Assistant Director of Ambulatory Nursing Practice and Regulatory Compliance (AD). The AD is an integral leader at UC Davis Health, with responsibility over the administration of nursing care in the hospital based clinics, primary care network clinics, outpatient procedures labs, and other settings. As the region's only academic health center, UC Davis Health is focused on discovering and sharing knowledge and providing the highest quality of care. UC Davis Health is located on a 144-acre campus and encompasses the UC Davis Medical Center, the UC Davis School of Medicine, the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis, and the UC Davis Medical Group. The Davis Medical Center is a 627-bed multispecialty center which provides a full range of inpatient, ancillary, support, and ambulatory care services. Ambulatory care is provided at hospital-based clinics and satellite clinics in and around Sacramento. UC Davis Medical Center has Magnet Recognition ProgramĀ® status, recognizing excellence in its acute care and ambulatory care nursing.

Reporting to the Director of Clinical Operations with secondary reporting to the Chief Nursing and Patient Care Services Officer, the AD works in close partnership with the practice manager, nurse manager, and medical director of each clinic in this matrixed role. The AD oversees the clinical practice and standard of care provided by registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, medical assistants, and technicians to ensure high-quality patient care and compliance with all regulations. The AD is also responsible for the clinical practice for the Primary Care Network nurse triage team and the ambulatory per diem pool of clinical support staff.

This is a unique opportunity to greatly influence and shape UC Davis Health's ambulatory organization for the coming decade. In line with changes in healthcare delivery, the AD will be involved in the further development and expansion of ambulatory care -including new clinics - and will consider modifications to the organizational structure and staffing. S/he will act as a key link between inpatient and outpatient nursing to ensure a strong continuum of care. Ambulatory nursing is a strength at UC Davis Health, and the AD will have a critical role in promoting the principles of Magnet and supporting the Magnet Recognition Program and UCDMC Magnet designation with a robust ambulatory presence.

The successful candidate will be a strategic and innovative thinker with proven nursing leadership experience in the ambulatory setting of an academic medical center. S/he will be a persuasive and effective communicator who can build strong relationships across the continuum of care with a variety of stakeholders inside and outside the health system. The AD will bolster educational and professional development programs for ambulatory staff including nurses, LVNs and MAs. S/he will bring a successful track record of working in complex environments and a steadfast commitment to diversity and inclusion. Experience with shared governance, the Magnet Recognition Program, Joint Commission Standards, and unions are highly desirable. S/he must have an MSN or BSN with a Master's in a related field and hold a current license as a registered nurse in the State of California before starting.
